Background
Where it started.
If you asked me what I did in my free time as a kid, I'd tell you I invented things.
My childhood revolved around chemistry kits, museums, and TV shows like Tomorrow's World. I wanted to know how everything worked, and what you could do once you understood it. I've never really grown out of that.
A few singed eyebrows and a lot of years later, I completed my degree in Space Science and Robotics, then spent over a decade in software, most recently as a senior engineering leader at a UK consultancy. I've covered a lot of ground in that time, from firmware on tiny, power-constrained devices to systems millions of people depend on every day.
Now
What I do now.
What I enjoy most is execution, taking a rough idea and turning it into something real that people use every day.
I design and build custom electronics, low-power, energy-harvesting, sensors and connectivity, and ship small runs of finished products from my own workshop. I also work with software teams, helping them architect, build, deploy, and run products and services. I'm a generalist with sound judgement.
Designing and selling my own products keeps me honest about what it really takes to ship and support something end to end. It's one thing to design a board. It's another to build it, box it, and stand behind it.
It still amazes me what's possible with the technology we have now, and I love putting it to use and helping to push it a little further.
